The Sexiest summer ever with Tropitone

“This summer Move It, Cool It, Tan it… Say it with Tropitone.”

A few weeks ago, before I went away, I asked the Twitterverse about the best sunscreen for using on your face. I have three really awesome sunscreens for the face but each of them is a factor 50 and I want to try to find something that is slightly lower in the SPF. Well Heather from Femme Lifestyle dropped me a message asking for my address and before I knew a parcel had arrived on my doorstep.

I am pedantic about sunscreen, the mother has some serious skin damage from the rays and I really, really never want to have any type of damage. I always, always apply sunscreen when I am out in the sun and lately even when it is overcast I am lathering (especially my face) in an SPF. Heather sent me the SPF 20 ‘Move It’ sunscreen as well and the SPF 6 Tan Enhancing Oil Spray from the Tropitone range. I’m a firm favorite of Tropitone and these two sunscreens have cemented my faith in the brand yet again.

Firstly let me touch on the SPF20, I find that an SPF 15 – 20 is a great everyday sunscreen, it has just enough coverage tom last throughout a day in the office or just longer than hour stint out in the sun. This lotion offers medium protection with UVAge and UVBurn protection, it is water resistant and non-greasy and enriched with monoi Tahitian Oil a enriched coconut oil. My one main issue with sunscreens is that shiney sheen that they give you once you have applied them, well I have to say that this SPF leaves very little of this on your face and body. I have been using this on my face, neck and chest quite a bit and even though it is not specifically for faces it is great protection and a little goes a hang of a long way!

I first used the SPF6 Tan Enhancing Oil the other day, firstly before I say anything else let me tell you this spray nozzle = love!! It is a continuous oil dispensing machine, there ain’t going to be any clogging of this nozzle. I love oils as sunscreens but I don’t really like the ‘oil slick that they leave behind in the water. I find that an oil has way more coverage and is more moisturizing than a normal cream sunscreen. I also like to think that I tan more with an oil based sunscreen, and that they offer more protection, I think this is because after swimming I still feel ‘covered’ by my oil lotions more so than when I have applied a cream lotion. So I look forward to using this low coverage enhancer at those times when you’re taking an afternoon dip and you don’t need much coverage.

Thank you so much to Heather! I feel really blessed to have these sent to me, I can’t wait to have a bit more of a ‘tanning’ session with these! I’m not sure about the #sexiestsummerever but this is sure going to be the most #tannedsummerever.

So I mentioned here that I was attending the Cuppa4Cansa event held by Madame Macaroon herself, Vee. I honestly haven’t had a chance to write a post about the event but let me tell you it was a great time, … Continue reading

#DBNbloggermeet Restaurant Review: Hashtag

So most people will have seen the frenzy that was #DBNblogger meet, we literally dominated Twitter on Saturday with two trending topics on the Trending Lists. Well now it’s down to the nitty-gritty of what happened at Hashtag, the latest roughly a month old, hippest, most happening place on Lilian Ngoyi Rd (previously Windemere Rd) in fact Hashtag has taken over the premises of the legend-wait-for-it-diary Beanbag Bohemia.

In central Durban Hashtag is a stylish restaurant and cocktail bar which plays off the latest social media trends, I mean have you seen the #SelfieZone in the bathrooms?? They also have an awesome Absolute Vodka cocktail bar as you walk in the doors, it looks like there should be ice sculptures and Russian models in fur bikinis on the bar shooting Absolute right out of the bottle.

There is an upstairs to the restaurant but unfortunately I was so wrapped up in the Blogger world and chatting that I didn’t get to have a peek… This venue offers comfort and class all while feeling like the world is at your finger tips…

On to the food… Well if you are a Groupon addict you would have seen that hashtag had an incredible special on their pizzas recently and darn, I wish I had snapped a few of those offers up! The pizzas are great! But the menu is incredible, create-your-own pizza, pasta and burgers! Jaw dropping delicious ingredients that are รผber fresh! And the best of all is you can order your pizza using their nifty little Samsung tablets!!

We each had a pizza, mine was bacon and avo… And it came chock full of each, just how I like it. The base Delish, thin and crispy perfection… The pizzas are well sized and the medium more than filled me as I bought half of it home!

For pudding we had a choice… A Banana and fudge spring roll with vanilla Ice cream or a chocolate and chilli spring roll with chocolate Ice cream. Let me just say yum yum pigs bum! I had the chocolate and chilli spring roll and even though the Ice cream was nothing to write home about the spring roll definitely was! It was just the right amount of hot chilli an the perfect chocolatey creamy goodness… In fact I reckon Hashtag should start selling shooter glasses made out of cookies with this divine chocolate goodness in them… Oh great and wonderful peeps at Hashtag… If you do put this on the menu please may I have them free for life for giving you the idea?? ๐Ÿ˜‰

You might be thinking well this was an event things always run smoothly at events, wrong, wrong, wrong! If you’ve ever done an event you’ll know things never run smoothly there are ALWAYS, ALWAY, ALWAYS problems and changes and last minute issues to deal with… Now let me say one thing about being a guest at Hashtag, if any of these issues were going wrong, we never knew about it. The staff were prompt, helpful and attentive, the chef came to check how our food was and even bade us farewell as we were leaving. We pretty much took over the restaurant and left it a little worse for wear and there was never anything but a smile, a wave and a ‘see you again!’

Well yes, Hashtaggies (what I call the staff working there), you will see me again so get the dough rising, the bacon crossing and the chocolate and chilli flowing!!

As a partial disclaimer let me just say that Hashtag were amazingly generous and sponsored all of the food and drink items that we had at the event. This generosity by no means tainted my view of how yummy the food was or my thoughts on the restaurant, in fact I had been wanting to try Hashtag and would now happily go back and buy each item I had again and again.

Lush Durban Store Opening

So last week we finally got the Shout out… Durban Lushies were to post their favorite Lush products on the Lush Twitter or Facebook and they would receive an invite to the opening of the Durban Lush store. Now we had first heard that Durban was going to get a Lush store in the last few months of last year so I have been waiting with absolute baited breathe for the store to finally open.

Well tonight (Wednesday 12th of March) the store opened, even with some renovations not 100% correct, the wonderful Lushettes (that’s what I’m going to call the people who work there) didn’t want to push the opening and the special opening event back because of a few minor details, which of you didn’t know they weren’t right you weren’t going to know that they were wrong. (If you get my drift)

Anyway the shop is situated on the Clicks side of Gateway, it’s beside Gerald Wells hair salon. It is well sized but tonight as it was the opening it was pretty crowded, there were times when you couldn’t really move because of the amount of people, but hey, the more the merrier… You can only have an opening event once! If you are lost trying to find Lush, use your nose as they are the most amazing smelling shop and it carries down streets, shopping malls and pretty much anywhere. In fact in the UK and Europe I knew when I was coming upon a Lush store simply by the smell.

The boarded up front door. (One of the things that weren’t finished)

Our first glimpses inside.

On arriving and having our names ticked off ‘the list’ it was in through the doors and into the room of plentiful smells… We were handed a goodie bag with a Big Blue bath bomb, and Fresh Matters a magazine/ catalogue of Lush’s products as well as some of their history, their usage of natural fresh products and support of charity and their treatment of animals ( they are against testing on animals – although with how divine their products are I would volunteer to be tested on at any time!)
We were then treated to champagne or fruit juice, fruit kebabs, mini mushroom burgers, mini tomato and bean bunny chows, halloumi and tzatziki bites and for dessert… Gorgeous baklava in plain and chocolate varieties.

The store is setup so well, beautiful packages, abundant products, testers every where and although they haven’t yet received all their products but you get the sense that when they do it will just be phenomenal. They were missing some of their ‘made fresh’ products which are stored on ice normally… Well that’s where the champers was for the night (great multi-tasking area ๐Ÿ˜‰ )
There are sinks and bowls of water for you to test any product and then rinse off, in fact the staff are so amazing that they give you a massage while trying out the product on you… Mini massages with the massage bars would have been even better if they were on your back not your hands/arm but they are tempting enough for me to have bought a massage bar.

The store once most of the shopping had died down.

The staff are AMAZING, they know their products and ingredients very well, try are so friendly it was like meeting up with a long lost friend. In fact I didn’t really want to leave because I truly felt like we made friends. Promises were made of coming back to the shop for a face mask and to try the hair shampoo bars, I joked and said we would have a sleep over, I would come in my PJ’s and we could try any and every product in the store.

Now onto the price, Lush is not the cheapest of shops, I broke a bank account placing an online order before Christmas (yes, reviews will be in soon). But when you look at pure value for money Lush makes sense, they have shampoo bars (which look like soap macaroons) for roughly R100 which you can use up to 80 times(!), the 50g Sweetie Pie shower jelly is R55 and can be used as a soap or a shampoo. The R90 Fun soap (it’s like play dough for the bath) can be used in 4-5 different ways! The bath bombs and bubble bars which are roughly R50 each can be broken up to be used as many times as you have pieces (I feel 4 times is best). So the value is really there in the products, they are also so much more fun than normal toiletries. Stunning gift packs are available which although might be slightly more than what your willing to pay but they are made up of amazingly grouped products and are great value.

The beautiful gift packs.

All in all it was a wonderful night hosted incredibly well by the Lush Durban and Cape Town team. I was on a strict budget and came in under budget (even with buying three products- bonus!), I purchased a slice of Honey I Washed the Kids (honey based soap), a dragons egg (bath bomb complete with sparkles and confetti) and the Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar (an amazingly spicy cocoa butter based bar). As I was about to leave I pointed out the very sad looking Stepping Stone foot scrubs that had been squashed instead of the testers, two seconds later I was given a sample pack of the scrub from the destroyed ones. What a wonderful surprise! I now have a wishlist a mile long so it is a store that may break my budget each month! Make sure you visit next time you are in Gateway!

If you would like to see more photo’s from the event and hear another Lushies experience make sure to check out Nicola’s post on her blog; Run on Coffee.
