#OTBGateway Catch up

otb-coverOkay so I have been meaning to post this for some time and in between studying, holidays, work, being hospitalized and more I haven’t been able to finish my draft… and so I now have to re-edit this post to include all of the wonderful #OTBGateway Events that I’ve attended.

If you’ve seen my Snapchat or my Instagram it’s possible that you have seen me attend these incredibly fun events with a great marketing concept and each done with a different theme. But if your haven’t here you go…

So what is #OTBGateway, well simply OTB means Out the Box and the premise follows pretty much that, Gateway has created a ‘box’ that will highlight 4-5 of their merchants each month. These brands have been curated by the Gateway team to follow a specific theme that’s “hot” at the moment, August was Women’s Month and so the night was exclusively attended by ladies, September the beginning of Spring was celebrated as an eco “spring” filled event, in July Durban plays host to the Durban July horse racing event and so the line-up was star-studded and celebrity fueled.

Some of the brands that have been featured these past few months are:

  • Klines
  • 100% Co-Op
  • Rain Africa (a favorite of mine of course)
  • Terry Scott
  • Kingsmead Shoes
  • Shadows
  • Accessorize
  • Lush!
  • Nail-it!
  • Poetry
  • Tea Merchant
  • and many more!

The catering for the event is all featuring brands available to any patrons of the mall, Cape Town Fish Market, Primi, Chateux Gateux, Kauai, So Whipped and more. Each mouthful at the event is decadent, the food line-up has definetly influenced my eating out choices when I’m in the area.

The talented Emcee’s highlight each brand and why they’ve been selected for the night and listening to each brands representative I’ve learnt so much more about the history of the brand, the coming seasons and what decisions happen behind the scenes to influence fashion, beauty and more. The box is located up outside the Barnyard Theatre and you will be able to get up close and personal with some great brands which will change according to the season, trends and monthly themes.

Yet again Gateway has proved that they are an all inclusive shopping and entertainment experience and they are definitely the center to beat. Make sure you pop in to Gateway to have a look at the great merchants featured in this months ‘box’.

Rubybox 2015

Most of use beauties know and love the wonderful online store and subscription box service that is Rubybox. For those of you who don’t, Rubybox is South Africa’s answer to the ‘mail ordered’ beauty box, samples, trial and full sizes abide on a bed of paper raffia which is delivered to your door each month for a great price (R169 per month), from this they also have a great online store stocking some of the best products from SA and afar.

NEW_NEW_Join_Banner_TakeChargeHow amazing is this latest competition?? Offer ends on the 14/02/2015 so sign up to stand a chance.

The wonderful Head Rubies were kind enough to send me a Rubybox, they know that every girl wants to start their year off with some great beauty products! And on top of that, everyone loves to get parcels; posted, couriered, hand delivered, everyone loves to receive a box filled with awesome and this is what Rubybox supplies.

My box contained:
  • Natural Lab SPF30 Natural Face Cream –I was very excited to try this. With summer upon us a tinted sunscreen is perfect for my daily make up wear, it makes you feel like your skin can breath and there is enough coloring to make you feel like your skin is #flawless! I’m very surprised at how adaptable the tinting is, I’m super pale after my trip to winter wonder land aka Europe and this adapt perfectly to my coloring!
  • Rubybox Super Seamless Foundation Brush –This is my third Rubybox foundation brush. (I received one in a Rubybox, another at the #Durbanbloggermeet and now this one.) As far as foundation brushes go this is a great, cost effective brush, it does shed slightly but has great application, soft bristles and makes you feel like a pro.
  • Africology Body Butter -Being summer I was a little skeptical about receiving a body butter – we all know that body butters take a while to soak in, are extra moisturizing and can leave you feeling just as hot and humid as when you first showered. Surprisingly this body butter was lovely, I applied immediately after I showered two mornings in a row, although the formula was slightly harder and less pliable than most others, it left my skin feeling moisturized without the sweaty after thought. My one criticism would be that it smells very herb-y/ grassy/ vegetation like and although this didn’t linger I would have preferred a more feminine scent.
  • Mavala Cuticle Remover –Before I left for my winter wonderland holiday I did what all beauties will tell you is a possible mistake. I had gel nails done. *shock horror!* The only reason why is because it makes life a lot easier when you are travelling. Because of this I haven’t been able to try out the Mavala Cuticle Remover as yet. Believe me I will because I really like Mavala’s nail ranges and have heard great things about their other products. (So keep an eye/ ear out)

So why not join the 25000 women who subscribe and enjoy getting a wonderful customized parcel worth approx R250 every month, filled with hair care, skin care, make-up, fragrances and more. I’ve had some amazing brands in boxes that I have received; John Freida, Salvatore Ferragamo, Aussie, Sally Hansen and more! If you are wanting more bang for your bucks there are other options which include a MANBOX (a perfect valentines pressie for him), Beautique Boxes (can someone send me one of these!! They sound amazing.) and Build-a-Box.

p.s. I promise to update with images later this afternoon! XX

So I mentioned here that I was attending the Cuppa4Cansa event held by Madame Macaroon herself, Vee. I honestly haven’t had a chance to write a post about the event but let me tell you it was a great time, … Continue reading

Ponds : BB Cream

I’m going to be honest with you…. I’m about as pale as a snowman even in the midst of summer tanning bonza’s. It’s not that I don’t want to tan it’s just that I don’t want skin cancer… so I don’t go into the sun too much and when I do I smoother myself with SPF30 or 50 -the higher the SPF the better – after all a girl needs to keep her skin looking good and freckle free.

So as we have established my eternal shade of pale, let me tell you about the Ponds BB Cream; I for one love this cream, I love the coverage, I love the tinsy tiney little nozzel on the bottle, I love that a tiny amount spreads around your entire face, I love the smooth and even feel of my skin afterward, but what I don’t love is that the Fair (the lightest shade on offer) is still too dark for my skin! Can you handle…
I thought that I could push through and continue to use it but and that’s a big BUT, I end up looking like a post-nineties W.A.G (soccer Wives and girlfriends) with a self-tan or a tanning bed problem… aka orange… I’m not sure why this seems to be so ‘orange’ on my skin, perhaps it is oxidizing on my skin or perhaps it’s simply too dark?

So how could I love it if it makes me look like a ‘Jersey-Shore’ cast member?? Well I love the coverage it has a light to medium with emphasis on the medium side of coverage, so a little goes a long way. The bottle has the teeny of tiniest little nozzles meaning that you don’t have to use much product, I wish there was a tiny nozzle like this on some other products because it helps you to lightly apply rather than slather your makeup on. The price! All us girls living on a budget (and those without) are able to afford this without breaking the bank, and it is reliable with Pond’s being the brand behind the product we know that we can trust them with our skin, our skin problems and now our beauty, they have been around for years and Pond’s as well as this little product aren’t going anywhere.

So how do I use it if it’s too dark for my skin? Well I have several foundation/ tinted moisturizer products that I absolutely love; some are nearly running out (I’m talking about you color correcting green primer from Woolies), some don’t have great coverage, others have amazing coverage but are slightly too light, (you know that in between seasons face color stage… yip, I’ve got a foundation for that!). So what do I do? I mix them together and apply, my SPF 15 day cream gets a squirt, my Ponds BB Cream gets a squirt, my color correcting green Primer from Woolies gets a squirt, my Yardley CC Cream (which I adore!) gets a squirt and depending on how much of the Ponds BB Cream I use… my Borjois Healthy Mix in Vanilla gets a squirt. This mix of these different product seems to create one of the nicest ‘bases’ for my skin, it suits my skin perfectly and, I get color correcting goodness, that beautiful ethereal glow and major coverage… I know, that this isn’t the ‘nicest’ way of having to apply make up, after all who really wants to have to master concocting a perfect shade for yourself every day but, this is a great way to use products that are running out, too dark or light, or that don’t offer the coverage you like. After all a BB cream is meant to be the first step in your morning foundation, we simply skip out a few stages and use it as a tinted moisturizer.

So have you ever had to ‘MacGyver’ your make-up? What was your trick?
