So I like most girls am a shopper… Of specific things though, there is nothing in this world that I hate more than underwear shopping, I absolutely love stationery shopping, and finding kitchy unique things that I’ll probably never use, but definitely have to have.
It’s coming up to the time of year also known as the
shop yourself silly season, whoops I mean Christmas. I find that when purchasing presents I want to purchase something uniqely relevant to that person instead of something that seems like the obvious choice. I also love supporting local and I love quircky and so enters KZNSA’s “New Look” shop!
The KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts (KZNSA) re-launch their popular Shop on Tuesday 14 October, just in time to catch the start of the festive season.
“We are incredibly excited about the opening because it’s our chance to reveal our stock of “Local Only” merchandise / items,” says Angela Shaw KZNSA Gallery Complex Manager. “At the beginning of 2014 we embarked on a policy of stocking only KZN, South African or hand-made work from other African countries on the floor. In addition, we have taken the opportunity to refresh all the existing lines in the shop.”
The ground-floor area will remain gift focused, with affordable smalls made locally, and the Mezzanine, ‘boutique’ space will carry more collectable, once-off and designer pieces.
“One of the prime aims with this new set-up is to educate our customers about the value of collecting local work, as well as the opportunity to discover the work of makers they don’t know, or can’t find anywhere else,” Shaw continues. “Collectable works include Angeline Masuku basketry, Thembi Nala ceramics, hand-blown glass pieces by Guido von Besouw.”
Exciting new additions to the upstairs space includes, designer clothing by Terrence Bray and others, furniture by Koop Design, homeware and lighting by Xavier Clarisse, and a high-end local jewellery collection featuring the work of Nicky Savage, Lapis Lazuli and Starbright Girl.
The shop is open Tuesday to Friday 09h00 – 17h00, Saturday 09h00 – 16h00, Sunday 10h00 – 15h00. Christmas shopping hours will co-incide with the shop hours. The KZNSA is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, for more info contact (031) 277 1700
I’m sorry I didn’t have time to request images to dazzle you but please go and check out the shop, from what I’ve seen it sounds lovely with perfect present giving items… and more than likely something to spoil yourself with!
