I love my country, I love my city, my town, my house, my bubble and when an opportunity comes along where I am able to join hands with my city and support it, I will. September is Tourism month and the easy, like super duper, easy peasy easy, way to show your support is by wearing a yellow T-shirt every Friday for the month. I love how September is also the month that Heritage Day falls in, so what better way of remembering your heritage than celebrating the place that you live??
Have a look at the Press Release below and see some of the events that are going to be held too.
Get involved in tourism month!
September is Tourism Month and this year Tourism KwaZulu-Natal is calling on everyone in the province to show their support by wearing a yellow t-shirt every Friday for the month.
“Tourism is everybody’s business, because we are all ambassadors for our destination,” said Ndabo Khoza, CEO for Tourism KwaZulu-Natal.
“We want to get the whole province behind tourism, to remind them that every single one of us has a role to play in ensuring tourists and visitors to our destination have a great stay, and to make sure they return again and again.”
Coupled with the t-shirt campaign is a drive for people in the province to rediscover the wonders of KwaZulu-Natal.
“Part of our Tourism Month programme encourages people to get out and explore our beautiful province. Whether it’s a quick weekend break, a fun day trip, or perhaps an extended stay around Heritage Day, we want people to re-charge in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Linked with this are a host of events that are being held around the province, which is sure to get people up and travelling through the region,” said Khoza.
If you’ve met me you’ll know that I love to play tourist in my city, a trip to Mini Town, walk down the beach-front, a sun-downer at the Beverly Hills, a trip to Phezulu or a game park, all of these great activities are perfect for recharging one’s batteries, if you’re planning on playing tourist or even if you’re going about your daily business around Durban use the hashtag #GottaLuvKZN to let people know what and where is hip hop and happening… hopefully you’re adventures will be a lot better than that phrase 😉
Tourism KZN (TKZN) will be having shopping mall events all around the province which include live broadcasts from local radio stations (including the ever present ECR which is always playing in my office at work) AND on top of that the Expresso show on SABC 3 will be having an insert on the show each Friday about KZN, our beaches, our mountains, our cities, our people, you name it, it will be covered. There is a LOT going on for Tourism month.
On top of all that TKZN are hosting two functions on Friday the 12th of September:
- Tourism month celebration: Friday morning at the Luthuli Museum in Groutville, Stanger.
- Lilizela Service Excellence Awards: Friday night, at 18:00 at eBandla Hotel in Ballito. MEC KZN Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Michael Mabuyakhulu will deliver a keynote speech.
Tourism KZN Senior PR and Communications Manager Vikki Vink and General Manager Marketing, Boni Mchunu excited to wear their yellow T- shirts to kick-start Tourism Month.
