It’s time to get personal, Yo!
I’ve been feeling like its time to get a bit more personal on here so that you (readers) know a little bit more about me and not just how funny, amazing, witty, friendly, talented… (Feel free to add any other adjectives) I am.
When I started blogging I knew one thing, I didn’t want to turn this blog into a “Woe is me”, “The world hates me”, “look how sucky my day was” type of blog, there are way too many of those around! I wanted to rather have fun, share my love of beauty and make up products (even though I am in no way an expert on the subject), tell some funny stories, highlight what is happening in Durban, meet new people, and be creative. I suppose that’s why I’ve focused mainly on reviews and products.

But the time has come! Loren from Hello Minkys has done the ‘Confessions of a Blogger’ tag she found on another blog. I figure the first part of getting to know me is finding out why I’ve started blogging… So here goes…

💙 When did you start your blog?
I started blogging in September 2013, my blog is relatively new but I’m happy to see there has been some progress. (The fact that I have views in the thousands from all over the world is progress to me.)

💙 Have you had any past online presence before, like another blog or YouTube?
I think I started a blog once when I was younger, but the fact that I can’t remember shows that it wasn’t that memorable. I love my tweeting, gramming and Facebook, if that counts.

💙 Why did you start a blog?
Ok, this may be a longish answer, I’ll try to keep it short though. 2013 was a killer year for me, I started the year with depression and had to pull myself towards myself -with the help of a great psychologist. I got to a place where I felt I was doing well, the depression was under control, and as a Christian I had God come through time and again for me, then I was retrenched from my job. This shattered heart and I didn’t understand how it could be happening to me. Thankfully with my family and friends support I was able to get a great job which I’m really enjoying. As my previous job had a creative outlet in working on events, which I loved doing, I knew I needed something creative to benefit me. And so with some convincing from a friend, I jumped straight in!

💙 When did you become serious about starting a blog?
I knew when starting this blog that I wasn’t going to stay inspired or keep posting if I didn’t jump in with both feet. One of the first things I did was join the #Delishbox, I knew this would get me networking and making friends, shortly after starting I attended the #Durbanpolishparty where I met some of the Durban bloggers (I now call them friends), I’m now grateful to be part of the Durban #BloggersWhoBless (#BWB) group these connections have helped me stay on track, stay motivated and have I’ve had so much fun!

💙 What was your first post?

My first post was an about me post, thereafter my first ‘official’ post was about the Moses Mabhida stadiums Skycar, looking back now I wish it had been some thing a bit more exciting with an entertaining story behind it… but it’s not…

💙 What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?
I love interaction so not having many comments on my blog is a bit of a challenge, but I’ve realized it’s not necessarily about comments or views, I’m doing this for me and the readers are getting the benefits of seeing my posts and reviews. Please feel free to say hi or comment on photos, posts etc. I would love to hear some feedback.

💙 Where do you see your blog in one year?
Well, in September my blog will turn one, that is my aim… Get to September. I just hope that I keep blogging in one way or another. Hopefully in a year, I’ll have learned a bit more and the blog will look and read a bit better.

💙 What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?
I know I shouldn’t count them, but I love seeing the amount of views I get. I thought I would be writing to one or two people, but to have views from all per the world (including Estonia – I’m not even sure where that is!) is very heart warming.

💙 What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you about blogging?
I mentioned above, the lack of blog comments, as well as when I hear of bloggers that I’ve chatted with on social media having problems, I hope that will never happen to me.

💙 What is your lasting inspiration or motivation?
Just keep swimming!

  1. Hi, I’m Anna. I’ve noticed that even some bigger names, don’t really have that many blog comments. They do tend to have high Twitter Followers though. I’m a newbie and starting from scratch with both, a blog and Twitter, can be a bit discouraging at times. I hear people say all the time to stick with it anyways, especially if you love it! Have a great day!

    • Hi Anna,
Thanks so much for the comment, you’re so right! It seems people love reading but don’t always have something to say, I’m planning on sticking with it! I hope you are too… Gonna check out your blog and see you on twitter 🙂

  2. I’m so happy you did this tag – I loved reading your answers, getting to know you better and the reason behind your blog! Don’t let the lack of blog comments discourage your blogging – because, firstly – many people read posts off their phone/ipad and some of them have trouble commenting from their phones/ipads so instead don’t common at allt! And, secondly, a lot of people also read posts off Bloglovin’ and sometimes Bloglovin’ doesn’t give you the option to comment. So, having said that – A LOT of people LOVE reading your blog but because they have trouble commenting they try avoid the hassle of fighting the trouble 🙂 I hope I’ve encouraged your discouragement and please carry on blogging – if you love, we (the readers) love it 🙂 (Ok, I’ll stop being all soppy now ;)) xx

  3. So glad I stumbled across your blog, I also love reading comments but sadly hardly anyone comments on blogs. I sometimes don’t comment because of the captcha not working on my phone.

    • Hi Sam, Thanks so much for the comment. Isn’t it so strange how some blogs give you problems when commenting and others don’t? Hoping you have a great day, stumble past anytime 🙂 !

  4. Hi! I just found out your post and I like it 🙂 I’m new to blogging and, yea, I face those problems too. Thank you for posting this! I’ll continue my blogging journey with a big smile 🙂
